Our Creative Community

What is giving me a lot of hope and happiness right now is how many creative people are putting content out there for children and families at home!!  As someone often sent these links by others, I wanted to share resources with others and this is 100% why I started this blog.  So here are some more links...

Both Steve Harpster (Harptoons Publishing) and Jason Tharp (Wonderville Studios) will be going live on Facebook
with lessons, drawing ideas, and talks to kids.  Check into those sites for the days and times they will be broadcasting.  Both are local Ohio authors if you didn't know -- Jason Tharp lives in Powell and also writes for Scholastic and produces tshirts and products about kindness.  Steve Harpster lives in Cincinnati and has a drawing book series for kids.

Cassie Stephens is an art teacher living in Tennessee who is a bit of a celebrity -- she was on NAILED IT! (and won!), she has books of at home activities for clay and fiber art, she dresses in crazy outfits, and she has a large following on Instagram, etc.  Currently she is putting up free lessons on her blog and making YouTube videos for kids to do full projects at home.  This week all her lessons are centered around creating ROBOTS!!  I have a robot drawing book the students LOVE and these projects look amazing!
SHE IS ALSO LIVE STREAMING ART LESSONS!!

Jon Juravich is a former colleague from Olentangy and was Ohio's Teacher of the Year and a finalist for the National Teacher of the Year!  I've already linked his WOSU talks, but he's got great ideas on Twitter and Instagram too:

  • He has QuickDraw! prompts his students normally do on Postit notes as they come in (I've been wanting to try this at my school) and he's still posting these for the students
  • Today he has a partner draw activity posted on video.  Get two people with two markers, and trade off drawing.  First person draws a random shape, second adds details.  Then the second person draws a shape, first person adds details.  This is GREAT for developing creative thinking with kids, and they love it -- you can do it anywhere!

I have added a link list on the left of the blog for quick access to the major websites I'm sharing here.  Hopefully that will make it easier to find them!!
